Boere soek hulp met water

‘n Dringende vergadering is onlangs in die EHS Landbou-akademie se saal gehou waartydens talle boere hul kommer oor die toestand van damme en riviere in the Hoeveldstreek en elders uitgespreek het.

 

Die vergadering is bygewoon deur me. Mariette Liefferink, ‘n bekende in omgewingsake en ‘n invloedryke kampvegter vir ‘n skoon en volhoubare omgewing.

Boere is veral bekommerd dat die gehalte van landbouprodukte bedreig work deur erge besoedeling in riviere en damme weens rioolstortings asook onoordeelkundige storting van afvalwater deur sommige myne.  In baie gevalle kan vee nie meer die water uit besoedelde riviere en strome suip nie.

Waar die stadaard toelaatbare E.coli-tellings in waterbronne nul per 100ml is, is tellings van meer as 24 196 per 100ml in die Klein Drinkwaterspruit, die bo-loop van die Ermelo-rioolaanleeg en die uitvloei van die Amersfoort –rioolaanleg na die Skulpsspruit gemeet.

“Dit is kommerwekkend dat die Staat nie daadwerklik ingryp nie teen munisipaliteite en instansies wat one waterbronne besoedel en versuim of Artikel 19 van die Waterwet af te dwing teen die besoedellaars.

“Die rioolbesoedeling van riviere hou ernstige gesondheidsgevare in vir mense, veral kwesbare verbruikers wat aan kroniese en akute wanvoeding en MIV/Vigs ly.

“Dit sluit ook landelike gemeenskappe in wat afhanklik is van rivierwater vir huihoudelike gebruik,” het me Liefferink gesê.

Die Federasie vir ‘n Volhoubare Omgewing (Federation for a Sustainable Environment) waarvan me. Liefferink die hoof uitvoerende direkteur is, het al verskeie suksesse behaal in die stryd teen waterbesoedeling.

Palmietkuilen Coal Mining Project Rejected

The Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD) has refused to grant permission for the proposed Palmietkuilen Coal Mining Project.  The FSE with other interested and affected parties lodged an objection with the Department of Mineral Resources against the proposed open cast coal mine to be situated on the Palmietkuilen farm in Lesedi.
