Prof. Nidecker of Radiology, University of Basel, Switzerland. Past president and board member of PSR / IPPNW Switzerland is interviewed along with independent international consultant on energy and nuclear policy releases, Co-author of yearly world Nuclear Industry Status Report, Mycle Schneider.  In this podcast they highlight topics and insights from the Symposium, "Nuclearisation of Africa". 

 

"I don't think society should be exposed to the risk of nuclear power and uranium mining", says Prof Nidecker. 

 "The big delegation from Niger - a very poor country - ...observed some of the townships in the West Rand and were appalled by the conditions in which the people need to live in the contaminated areas." 

"We were impressed with the  know-how in renewables which exists in the South Africa.  I think that South Africa should be a leader in the implementation in renewables.  South Africa should abandon its plans on nuclear power.". 

Mycle Schneider said he was impressed with the presence of civil society at the Symposium.
