Greater Pilansberg Water Forum

The FSE facilitated and organised a successful Water Forum on the 30th of April, 2013 at the Maslow Hotel, Sandton in order to address the water resource constraints within the Greater Pilanesberg area.

It was  attended by more than a 100 key stakeholders and representatives of the Department of Water Affairs, the Trans Caledon Tunnel Authority, the South African Human Rights Commission, mining communities, NGOs, mining companies such as Impala Platinum, Wesizwe, Platmin, Anglo Platinum, Sibanye Gold, Royal Bafokeng Platinum, etc., the Chamber of Mines, the Department of Mineral Resources, Rand Water and Magalies Water, the North West Parks and Tourism Board, Sun International and the Legacy Group,  the National Union of Mine Workers, the South African National Biodiversity Institute, academics, lawyers, the news media, conservancies, special interest groups and others.

Presentations were delivered by inter alia Commissioner Janet Love of the South African Human Rights Commissioner, Water Specialist Carin Bosman, Mr. John Lee of Sun International and Mr. Bart Dorrestein of the Legacy Group,  Mr. Richard Holden of the Trans Caledon Tunnel Authority, Messrs Fred van Zyl and Petrus Venter of the Department of Water Affairs, Mr. Bertus Bierman of Anglo Platinum, Mr. Mokwanri Ignatius Monnakgotla on behalf of mining communities, Mr. Warren Beech of the law firm, Eversheds, Mr. Paul Fairall of the South African Wetland Society, Mr. Julius Kleynhans of AfriForum and Mr. Ian Jameson of Eskom.
